Undergraduate program of Immunology and Immune engineering
1. Educational Aims
Immunologyisa fundamental branch in modern medical and biological sciences. Immune engineering includes the antibody engineering, immuno-therapy, vaccine technology and immunodiagnosis. There is a great need for the professionals who master theoretical knowledge andpractical skillsin immunology and immune engineering. Meanwhile, the training of immunology and immune engineering in domestic universities is relativelylagging. “Immunology and immune engineering” is not in the list of undergraduate training program yet.
Institutes of Medical and Biology Sciences (IBMS), together with the School of Basic Medicine and Biology of Soochow University, set up the first program for “Immunology and immune engineering” in domestic universities. From 2011, IBMS started to select students from the major of Biotechnology, and trained them in the program of “Immunology and immune engineering”.
2. Major courses
The major theoretical courses for the program (Organized by IBMS) 《Immunology》 《Advance Immunology》 《Immunology in the history of Nobel Prize》 《Antigen and Antibody Engineering》 《Vaccine Engineering》
The courses for Experimentand Practice (Organized by IBMS) 《Experiments for immunology and immune engineering》 LaboratoryPractice and Rotation Undergraduatethesisdesign
3. Program cooperation IBMS cooperated with the ShanghaiInstitute Pasteur (CAS), GlaxoSmithKline (GSK)ChinaR & D Centerand Wuhan Institute of Virology (CAS) and Institute ofBiomedicaltransformation(Jinan University, Guangzhou), and provided excellent resources for the program of “Immunology and immune engineering”. In December of 2013, the “Gao Shangyin Elite Class ” of Soochow University- Wuhan Institute of Virology (CAS) was opened. The students in program of “Immunology and immune engineering” (2012) became the first batch of students for the “Elite Class”.Wuhan Institute of Virology (CAS) will provide the opportunity of research practice and special scholarships for the students of “Elite Class”. |
